A Look At – Building The LX002-OO Laser Cut Arched Five Bar Gates Kit
Building The Arched Five Bar Gate Kit
In this article we’ll take a look at building the Laser Cut Arched Five Bar Gates Kit. This kit is another very popular one and like the five bar gate kit LX001 is an easy build. Ideal for many different scenes around the layout such as farms, yards, fields etc.
This kit Contains: One sheet of Laser Cut Kit parts & instruction sheet.
So what tools do i need?
- A cutting mat
- Roket Card Glue (By Deluxe Materials)
- Craft knife with fresh sharp blade
- Steel rule to cut against
- Tweezers
- Small nail sanding stick or similar
The kit parts sheet containing laser cut parts to make three sets of gates & six gate posts. On the posts there is that include gate hinges take care when cutting & removing these from the parts sheet.
Lets get started….
First remove the fill in pieces from the five bar gate piece as shown on the right. These fill in pieces are not needed.
Now cut through the pips to remove this gate section. Don’t cut through the two parts that are circled in orange on the right. These are the gate hinges. Lightly sand flush any pips.
Carefully cut & remove one of the Y pieces from the parts sheet as shown on the right. Again lightly sand flush any pips. Run a thin bead of Roket Card glue on one side of the Y piece.
Now cut & remove frame piece of the gate as shown on the right from the kit parts sheet. Run a thin bead of Roket Card glue along one side of the frame piece.
Now cut & remove frame piece of the gate as shown on the right from the kit parts sheet. Run a thin bead of Roket Card glue along one side of the frame piece.
Turn the gate over & place the frame onto the gate as shown. Make sure all sides of the frame are flush with sides & edges.
With the gate now assembled we turn our attention to the gate posts. Cut & remove the three parts as shown on the right. You’ll notice that one part has two small pieces sticking out on one side these are the gate post hinges. Don’t cut these off though some posts in the kit are provided with extra hinges if you do accidentally cut through the hinges.
Sand flush any pips then taking one piece with out the hinges apply a small bead of Roket Card glue. Next Place the piece with the hinges on to the glued piece to form a stack of two. Now apply another bead of glue on to the hinge piece & place the second non hinged piece on to it. You’ll now have a stack of three with the hinged piece being in the middle as shown on the right.
Apply a small amount of glue to the underside of the hinges on the gate. Place gate hinges so they sit on top of the gate post hinges.
Now cut & remove three more post pieces. If like you see on the right one with two hinges this time cut the hinges off as not needed. As before glue into a stack of three.
Now glue the end post to the gate. Another option would be to model the gate open in which case fix the end post in place on the layout to where the gate would normally be shut.
Repeat the kit build with the two other gates included in the kit. The gates can be left unpainted or painted in suitable colours to represent a wood finish.
Happy Modelling.
These really are such good kits and look amazing. Better still you don’t need to paint them as the finished model looks just like wood.
Thank you 🙂
