A Look At – Building The LX004-OO Garden Fencing Kit (Part One)

Garden Fencing Kit – OO / 1:76 Scale

In this article we take a look at the LX004-OO Garden Fence Kit by Scalemodelscenery.co.uk. This kit is a 4ft scale fence & also includes two small garden gates. An ideal kit for an evenings modelling session. The fence makes up into five sections which when joined together makes up a total length of 88cm.

The posts are taller than the fence which allows for fitting into pre-drilled holes in your baseboard. Glue the post ends with Deluxe Materials Roket Card glue & insert into the pre-drilled holes. If you need a longer fence use additional LX004-OO kits to extend the fence.

Tools required

  • Craft Knife
  • Deluxe Materials Roket Card Glue or P.V.A glue
  • Cutting Matt
  • Sanding Stick
  • Optional – Acrylic paints

Kit Contents

  • Instruction sheet
  • Two sheets of kit parts

Lets get started…

Start by cutting free one of the fence panel sections.

Sand flush any pips on the kit part edges.

Next cut out the thicker posts from the parts sheet.

Sand flush any raised pips on the post sides. Place posts to one side in a pile.

Run a bead of glue as shown on the right.

Now place one of the posts onto the bead of glue. Make sure post is square & flush with all edges.

Repeat by adding another bead of glue on top of the post you’ve just glued on. Now place a second post on to the bead of glue to form a stack of three. Again make sure all sides are square & true.

Now cut out the thinner posts & place in a separate pile to the bigger posts.

Take two of the thinner posts. These are the rail posts.

Run a bead of glue as shown on the right.

Place one of the thinner rail posts onto the bead of glue as shown on the right.

Repeat by gluing a second rail post as shown on the right.

Take two of the thicker posts & glue together to form a stack of two.

Next run a bead of glue as shown on the right.

Now place the stack of two thicker posts onto the bead of glue as shown on the right.

Now repeat the above so that all the fence sections have the posts & rail posts fitted as shown on the right. There will be enough spare rail posts to allow joining fence sections together.

Gates & gate posts

We now turn our attention to the gates. Cut out the posts as shown on the right. Sand flush any pips on the side edges but be careful not sand the gate hinges off!

The gate posts are made up of three sections. Take one piece with out the hinges & run a bead of glue as shown on the right.

Place the post with the hinges onto the post with the glue on. Make sure all sides are true & sqaure.

Now run another bead of glue onto the post with the hinges on. Then place another post section without hinges on to glued post. Make sure all edges are sqaure & true.

Next cut & remove the gate & Z section from the parts sheet.

Run a bead of glue as shown on the right.

Place the Z section as shown on the right onto the gate.

Place a small blob of glue on top of the hinges as shown on the right.

Now sit the gate hinges on top of the glued post hinges as shown on the right.

Now take three more posts & glue into a stack of three as before. This time cut & remove the hinges. Sand sides flush.

Next add a bead of glue along the edge of the gate.

Place the second gate post onto the glued gate.

Now repeat the assemble of the second gate.

In part two we’ll look at fitting the gates to the fence & installing the fence onto the layout.
