A Look At – Building The LX005-OO Laser Cut Bus Shelters Kit

Lets get started….

So as the previous kit articles the tools & glue you’ll need are as seen on the right are:

• Cutting mat
• Craft knife with fresh sharp blades
• Roket card glue by Deluxe Materials or similar
• Steel rule or straight edge for cutting against
• Sanding stick
• Old cloth for wiping away excess glue
• Tweezers

Familiarize your self with the parts on the kit parts sheet.

For painting the parts use artists or modelling acrylic paints or spray paints.

Opening the packet this is the kit contents seen on the right. You’ll notice that the clear glazing sheet has the glazing panels already printed which saves time in not having to mark the glazing parts out.

First task is to cut & remove the bits that aren’t needed. Using a sharp craft knife preferably with a fresh blade cut & remove the parts marked with the orange X as seen on the right.

Having removed the excess pieces you should have the kit parts sheet looking like this on the right.

At this point you can either paint the parts whilst still on the parts sheet or paint after removing off the parts sheet. The parts to make up one of the two bus shelters in this kit is seen on the right.

The parts for one shelter area as follows:

• Roof
• Left side outer
• Left side inner
• Right side outer
• Right side inner
• Rear side wall outer
• Rear side wall inner

At this point you can either paint the parts whilst still on the parts sheet or paint after removing off the parts sheet. The parts to make up one of the two bus shelters in this kit is seen on the right.

Now carefully cut out the glazing panels. These have black outlines printed so cut along each black line. Each shelter has three glazing panels.

Painting time! Here i’ve given the parts one coat of grey primer paint ( i’ve used a cheap aerosol grey spray primer paint from Motorsave car parts & accessories shop). As a lot bus shelters near me are just a galvanized colour i’ve opted to paint these the same. I’ve used Halfords Galvanized aerosol spray paint for the second coating of paint.

Once the paint has dried it’s time to assemble the kit. Taking the larger rear side wall frame run a thin bead of Roket card glue (by Deluxe Materials) along one side of the frame.

Take the larger glazing piece & carefully place it on the frame & make sure all sides are square & flush. Tip here is to let the glue tacky then place the glazing on to the frame. This will help any excess glue running beyond the frame on to the glazing.

Take the smaller inner rear frame & glue along one side again with a thin bead of glue. Place the inner frame on the opposite side to the outer frame making sure that the inner frame lines up with the outer frame as shown on the right.

Next take one of the outer side pieces & apply a thin bead of glue on one side as shown. The outer side pieces have one wider vertical side. The wider side can be seen on the right hand side of the part in the photo.

Let the glue tacky & carefully place one of the side glazing pieces on to the glued area making sure all is sqaure & true.

Now take one of the inner side pieces that looks like an E. Glue one side  of the E piece and place on to the glazing as shown on the right. The long side of the E piece sits on the wider side piece.

Now repeat for the other side piece but make sure that this time the glazing& E piece go on the opposite side to the first side piece. So in the photo on the right you should have a left & right hand side piece.

Take the right hand piece & glue along the edge that doesn’t have the inner long edge. Then place on to the rear wall piece making sure that both pieces have the inner frames on the inside as shown. Make sure that both pieces are sqaure & form a 90 deg angle.

Take the left hand piece & as before glue along the edge that doesn’t have the inner long edge. Then place on to the rear wall piece making sure that both pieces have the inner frames on the inside as shown. Make sure that both pieces are sqaure & form a 90 deg angle. You should now have a u shape free standing piece as shown on the right.

Next run a bead of glue along the top edge of the frame as shown. Then carefully place the roof on the glued top edge keeping the rear edge of the roof flush with the rear wall of the shelter. Make sure you have an equal over hang with the roof on both sides as shown on the right.

All that’s left to do now is add some weathering & install on the layout or diorama.
