Building The Wooden Park Benches Kit

In this on going series we look at the LX013-OO Wooden Park Benches Laser Cut kit. The kit makes up six wooden type park benches. An ideal kit for an evenings or afternoons modelling session.

This kit Contains: One sheet of Laser Cut Kit parts & instruction sheet. Is suitable for both OO & HO scale seated figures.

Lets get started….

The tools & glue you’ll need are as seen on the right are:

  • Cutting mat
  • Craft knife with fresh sharp blades
  • Roket card glue by Deluxe Materials or similar
  • Steel rule or straight edge for cutting against
  • Sanding stick
  • Old cloth for wiping away excess glue
  • Tweezers

Familiarize your self with the parts on the kit parts sheet.

Start by cutting & removing the four parts shown on the right from the kit parts sheet. The parts are two inner left & right sides as well as two outer left & right sides.

Take the outer left hand piece & apply a thin bead of Deluxe Materials Roket Card glue to one side as shown. Then carefully place the left hand inner piece on top to form a stack of two as seen on the right. Be sure to wipe away any excess glue & that all sides are flush & sqaure.

Now repeat this time with the two right hand side pieces. You should have now two left hand stacks of two as shown on the right.

Next carefully cut & remove the seat backrest & seat base as marked out in orange on the right.

Apply a thin bead of Roket Card glue on to one side end of the seat base.

Insert the backrest piece into the two slot holes on the side piece as shown. Wipe away any excess glue & allow time for the glue to set. Make sure both the seat backrest & seat base are sqaure to the side piece.

Insert the backrest piece into the two slot holes on the side piece as shown. Wipe away any excess glue & allow time for the glue to set. Make sure both the seat backrest & seat base are sqaure to the side piece.

Insert seat base in the inner side slot as shown on the right. Wipe away any excess glue.

Next take the seat back piece & apply a small amount of glue to the two end parts that stick out as shown.

Apply a small amount of glue into the two slot holes for the seat backrest & slot for the seat base as shown on the right. Carefully insert the backrest & seat base into the side piece as shown. Be sure to make sure all is sqaure & that the bench sits level on your work bench.

This next part is optional: Cut & remove the two seat base brace pieces as shown on the right.

Apply a thin bead of glue along one edge on the underside of the seat base as shown. Place one of the brace pieces onto the bead of glue. Make sure brace piece sits flush or just back from the seat base edge.

Again apply a thin bead of glue along other edge on the underside of the seat base as shown. Place the other brace piece onto the bead of glue. Make sure brace piece sits flush or just back from the seat base edge. Wipe away any excess glue.

Now repeat build of the other five benches. You can either leave the benches in their unpainted state to represent an unpainted bench, or paint in a suitable colour of your choice. Justin recommends if you are painting these to use artist acrylic paints.

Use Roket card glue or similar to fix in place on your layout / diorama. For a temporary holding the seat benches in place use Deluxe Materials Taxy Wax Figure Glue.

Happy modelling.
