A Look At – Building The LX014-OO Laser Cut Park Litter Bins Kit (Pack of 8)

Building The Litter Bins Kit

In this on going series we look at the LX014-OO Litter Bins Laser Cut kit. The kit makes up eight litter bins. An ideal kit for an evenings or afternoons modelling session.

This kit Contains: One sheet of Laser Cut Kit parts & instruction sheet. For OO & HO scaled layouts.

Lets get started….

The tools & glue you’ll need are as seen on the right are:

  • Cutting mat
  • Craft knife with fresh sharp blades
  • Roket card glue by Deluxe Materials or similar
  • Steel rule or straight edge for cutting against
  • Sanding stick
  • Old cloth for wiping away excess glue
  • Tweezers
  • Acrylic paint (colour of your choice)

Familiarize your self with the parts on the kit parts sheet.

First cut & remove the four side pieces as marked on the right. Lightly sand any pips flush on the edges of the four side pieces.

Now cut out the three pieces as seen on the right. Discard the small square that’s within the bigger sqaure. Lightly sand flush any pips flush on the edges of these three pieces.

Taking bottom square apply a small amount of Roket Card glue along one edge. Place this piece as shown on the right on top of the side piece. Make sure the laser cut wording ‘Litter’ is facing downwards as though you are looking at the writing from behind. Use a block as a guide to make sure the base is square on to the side piece.

Now take the second side piece & glue into place as shown on the right. Make sure it’s square to the base & the first side piece.

Now take the middle former piece with the hole in. Place this just below opening on the side pieces as shown on the right.

Glue along the edges & place the third side piece as shown on the right. Again make sure all sides are square & flush.

Glue along the edges & place the fourth side piece as shown on the right. Again make sure all sides are square & flush.

Glue along the top edges & place the top piece on as shown on the right. Again make sure all sides are true & square.

You can now either leave the bin in the unpainted state to represent a concrete bin or weathered galvanized bin.

Using acrylic paints of your choice paint the bins.

Cut out the optional Litter signs off the supplied instruction sheet & glue these in place using a glue stick like Pritt Stick. Place the sign over the laser engraved lettering.

Of course if you so wish you can leave the Litter sign off & keep with the laser cut ‘Litter’ lettering. On the right we show you two painted bins with & with out the ‘Litter’ label sign.

All that’s left now is to glue in place on the layout & perhaps add a few items of litter from our litter sheet around the area of the litter bin or in the bin.

Happy modelling.
