Building The Greenhouse & Cold Frames Kit
In this article we’ll take a look at building the Laser Cut Greenhouse & Cold Frames Kit. This very popular kit is an easy build which is idea for an evenings modelling. Ideal for your model garden, parks etc scenes.
The kit Contents includes: One sheet of Laser Cut Kit parts, instruction sheet, printed glazing sheet.
What tools do i need?
- A cutting mat
- Roket Card Glue (By Deluxe Materials)
- Craft knife with fresh sharp blade
- Steel rule to cut against
- Sissors
- Tweezers
- Small nail sanding stick or similar

Lets get started…
First cut out the parts as shown on the right the two cold frames. Each Cold frame has two small sloped side pieces, one long high back piece, one small long front piece.
Take the long tall side piece & one of the sloped side pieces. With the laser engraved detail facing outwards slot the two pieces together & glue the inside of the corner. On the second photo on the right can be seen a small recess on the middle of the long back piece. This must face upwards with the side sloping piece sloping downwards as shown.
Now slot into place the other side slope piece as shown on the right. Again the laser engraved detail side must face outwards. Glue the inside of the corner joint.
Next take long small height front section & making sure that the recess in the middle faces upwards, slot & glue into place. Make sure all corners are square & true. Repeat assembly with the second cold frame.
Next remove the cold frame lid sections from the kit parts sheet. You’ll need to remove & discard the blank sections from with in the cold frame lids as shown on the right.
Cut out the cold frame glazing as printed out on the glazing sheet. Glue into place on to the frame lid as shown on the right.
Kit Option:
An option at this point if you want to create one cold frame lid that is open. Cut one frame lid free from the rest of the lid frames. There is some extra pieces in the kits part sheet that are the lid props. Glue the prop on the underside of the front of the lid. Place the prop on top of the low front piece of the side frames whilst the back of the lid sits on the top of the higher back piece of the side frames.
Now cut out the two two cross pieces off the kit parts sheet. Glue insert one cross piece into the two recesses on the front & back of the cold frame. As shown on the right then glue & place the cold frame lid into place. Repeat with the second cold frame.
Now that the cold frames are done we turn our attention to the greenhouse. Cut & remove the following parts as shown on the right from the kit parts sheet. Sand down any pips flush with the parts sides.
Cut out the glazing pieces from the glazing sheet & glue into place as shown on the right.
Glue & fit into place the two sides as shown. There is tabs on the sides that fit into recesses on the greenhouse end wall. Make sure all sides are square, true & that the glazing is on the inside of the frames as shown on the right.
Glue & fix into place the door wall end of the greenhouse. Again make sure all sides are square & true.
Next piece to fit is the center roof beam. This fits into the two top recesses on the end walls as shown on the right. Glue & fix into place.
Glue & fix into place one side of the roof sections. Again make sure the frame sits on the outside.
Now glue the other roof side piece & fix into place.
The last roof section to go on is the opening small window. Glue & carefully fix into place over the roof piece with the small window aperture as shown on the right.
The last piece of the kit is the door. Cut & remove the sliding door frame from the kit parts sheet. Glue this to the door as shown on the right. Then glue on to the doorway wall end of the greenhouse. Here you have the option to model the door in open, closed, or partly open position.
All that’s left to do is add some plants in the cold frame & green house & then place on to your layout. For adding staging inside the greenhouse you could maybe use or adapt this trestle table kit:
