Adding Scenic Details – Picnic Benches

Let’s get started…

Having familiarised yourself with the kit parts on the kit parts sheet map it’s time to get started. The parts marked in the orange box on the right make up one picnic bench.

Cut & remove parts A from the parts sheet. These are the A-frames.

Having removed parts A from the parts sheet, cut & remove the blank sections within the A-frame. Discard the blank sections as these are not needed.

Cut & remove parts B & C from the parts sheet. Apply a bead of glue along the A-frame as shown on the right.

Take the shorter part out of parts B & C & place on to the glued section as shown on the right.

Apply a bead of glue as shown on the right on the lower part of the A-frame.

Take the longer part out of parts B & C & place on to the glued section as shown on the right.

Now repeat the process on the second A-frame so that you end up with a matching pair as seen on the right.

Next cut & remove parts D from the parts sheet.

Lightly sand flush any pips on the sides of part D.

Turn the A-frames over as shown on the right.

Apply a bead of glue on one leg of the A-frame as shown on the right.

Take one part D & place on to the glue section. Make sure all edges square & true.

Now apply another bead of glue along the other leg of the A-frame.

Place another part D on to the glue section. Again make sure all sides are True square & flush.

Repeat the process with the second A-frame so you now have two matching ones as shown on the right.

Next cut out from the parts sheet, parts E & F these being the table top & table base. Sand flush any pips from the parts side.

In the photo on the right, the top table section is the rear one (make sure this faces upwards). The table base section is the one nearest the camera.

Apply beads of glue on the rear side of the table top as shown on the right.

Now stick the base section of the table onto the glued section. Make sure all edges are flush & square. A tip here is to place both pieces onto the wire through the table center hole. This will make sure the hole is lined up on both sections. Once the glue has set, remove the wire.

Apply a bead of glue along the top of the A-frame as shown on the right.

The A-frame will slot into this location on the table as shown on the right.

The A-frame should sit on the table like so as shown on the right. The tab on the A-frame slots into the table slot. The little square slot on the A-frame should face as shown in the photo on the right.

Repeat the process with the second A-Frame. Again make sure the little slot on the A-frame faces towards the other A-Frame.

Cut & remove Parts G as shown on the right, from the parts sheet.

Apply a blob of glue on each end of parts G & insert into the slot on the A-frame & on the table underside as shown on the right.

Next cut & remove from the parts sheet, part H. These are the seat section of the bench.

Apply a blob of glue to the two locations circled on the right.

Now place part H onto the two glued sections as shown on the right. The two recesses on part H should fit around the legs of the A-frame.

Now turn the table round & glue the two parts circled in the photo on the right.

Now take the other part H & as before with the recesses facing towards the A-frame legs, fit as shown on the right.

Next cut & remove part I from the parts sheet.

Apply a blob of glue to each end of part I & place onto the underside of the table as shown on the right.

Next, pick one of the umbrellas.

Cut out the umbrella as shown on the right.

Score & fold each of the colour sections of the umbrella, also score & fold the end sections of the umbrella.

Apply glue on to the white tab section of the umbrella & stick the tab to the underside of the next colour section, to form a dome type shape of the umbrella.

Cut the supplied wire rod to a length of 3cm. Then place the 3cm section through the centre hole of the table & base section. Apply a small amount of glue to the rod & the underside of the table around the hole.

Using a good super glue, apply a blob of glue in the center of the underside of the umbrella as shown on the right.

Carefully place the umbrella onto the top of the wire. Leave to one side for the glue to dry.
