Bachmann 31-653Y CLASS 47/7 47708 ‘WAVERLEY BR SCOTRAIL

Bachmann’s range of the class 47 Co-Co diesel models is now over 42 models since first release, covering various liveries & sub variants. With it’s many years in service the class 47 is one to have in any modern image era model fleet. The focus of this article is newly released (Feb 2018) limited edition model of BR Scotrail 47 708 ‘Waverley’ cat number 31-653Y. Commissioned by the AMRSS for the 2018 Model Rail Scotland Show. This is one of numerous series of limited edition models commissioned for this long running annual model show (Held last weekend of February). This limited edition model run is restricted to 512 models in Bachmann’s standard paint finish. Released on sale at the 2018 three day show but any remaining unsold models are available from Rainbow Railways.

The release comes with a limited edition certificate & standard Bachmann packaging, usual warranty paper work, instruction sheet & extra parts bag (for fitting by the modeller ). With this being a limited edition it also comes with brass etched name plates for fitting by the modeller.

The model has all six wheel drive & power pick ups & lights (cab, head & tail). The interior cab lighting can be switched out via under chassis switch, as can the rear lights also be turned off  via an under chassis switch for when hauling a consist. The model is also DCC Ready with a 21 pin DCC decoder socket, so a case of removing the body to fit a 21 pin DCC Decoder of your choice. Function F0 works the head & tail lights & Function F1 works the cab interior lights. Included in the spare parts bag is a speaker housing for use with converting this model to sound.

The model is driven by a central mounted can motor with twin brass flywheels giving smooth running. Both bogie gear towers are driven via a drive shaft connecting to the twin fly wheels.

The model has features like etched grilles, sprung buffers, NEM pocket couplers with small type removable tension lock couplers, separate plug in snow ploughs for fitting on one or both ends. Included in the parts bag is bufferbeam detail parts for fitting by the modeller. The model also has three link couplings fitted on one end of this model, separate fitted handrails, windscreen wipers, & lamp brackets are also included.  The roof also features separate fitted etched roof vent / fan grilles. The cabs feature a detailed interior & a driver figure fitted in one of the cabs. The bogies & under chassis are well detailed along with under chassis details, the wheelsets are fine scale profile. The chassis is heavy die-cast which helps give excellent traction. Bachmann have done a fine job on the printed details / logo’s, the fine small printed details like the loco data panel can be read under a magnifier glass.
