Bachmann (TMC) ‘Sugar Covhop’
Bachmann (TMC) ‘Sugar Covhop’
The Covhop 24T covered hopper wagon was introduced into the Bachmann range around 2013 onwards. TMC (The Model Center) located in the beautiful NorthYorkshire Moors National Park at Beck Hole near Goathland (Of Heartbeat & Harry Potter fame), commissioned Bachman to produce a limited edition run of 504 cat number 38-500Z. This commissioned run features new tooling, incorporating the roof hatches and discharge pipes, as well as a revised body/chassis alignment. The wagons are coloured in Ice Blue livery, which was also referred to as Arctic Blue by BR. The Blue on the Sugar COVHOPS has been carefully matched to the British Standard colour reference for Ice Blue in the BR corporate manual. The wagons come in a multi-pack with individual running numbers: B870785, B870803, B886629 & B886743. The ice blue livery might we believe may have been a precautionary measure to prevent loading with any other load. In service, they typically ran from the East Anglian sugar beet producing areas. A typical train of 8 – 12 Covhop wagons was not an uncommon sight. Certainly, something different to run on your layouts which are set in the 1960’s to 1980’s time period.
The models feature Bachmann’s fine-scale wheels, metal chassis, NEM coupling pockets, detailed under-chassis, discharge pipes, hatch lids & other separately fitted detailed parts. Bachmann & TMC have paid great attention to detail. Available in a multi-pack unweathered but a weathering service is offered by TMC, which includes a very basic value weathering service to full heavy bespoke weathering. If these take your fancy, grab them whilst still available from TMC.
