(Walk Through Build Guide)
For this article we return to having a look at another one of our growing range of kits, for a walk through build guide. So in this indepth walk through build guide, we’ll look at the KX047-OO 7ft Blue Brick Lineside Wall. This kit was released last year & is proving to be a popular one, so we’ll now have a look at how this kit is assembled.
The KX047-OO wall kit is available as both a pre-printed version & a download version. Both versions of this kit assemble in the same way, the only difference being the pre-printed one comes with of course the pre-printed sheets & laser cut card, whilst the download one you print off & provide your own card. The choice is yours as to which to go for. The download version does give you the option of building any length wall as you can simply print off more sheets using your computer & printer. Today we’ll be building the download version which can be found in the club shop & our download MRS website as well.

The pre-printed version comes with all the materials needed for this kit which include the photo realistic brick wall & coping stone sheets, & pre laser cut greyboard baselayer sheets. For the download version, you’ll want for what we call the texture layer (the top layer with the photo realistic image) 100gsm (or as close to 100gsm) photo paper. And for the template base layer, 80gsm normal white A4 copier paper. The photo below shows the 102gsm photo paper which I use for printing the photo realistic textures on to, this photo paper is by Epson and can found online at places such as Premier Inks, Post Office online shop amongst others. Expect to pay around the £10 to £15 mark for a A4 pack of 100 sheets.
Below the photos show the download of this kit from the club shop, which i’ve printed off at home. The sheets include as mentioned above the brick wall & stone coping stone sheets & the base layer sheets. For the card we’re using our 1mm greyboard card sheets pack which can be found here:

Lets get started…
The tools you’ll need are as follows:
- Cutting mat
- Craft Knife with new blade
- Steel ruler
- Roket Card Glue or Similar
- Pritt Stick / Glue Stick nor Similar
- Sicssors
For the download version (only) apply Pritt Stick glue to the rear non printed side of the base layer sheets (the plain white sheets with the black template outline shapes). We’ll get on to the pre-printed version shortly.
Now place the glued baselayer template sheets on to the greyboard card. Smooth out the baselayer so that no lumps or bumps are visible.
Next, repeat the process with the baselayer sheets that have the small rectangle brick printed images on them as shown right.
Place the glued on to card sheets to one side & give timme for the glue to set/dry.

Take the Photo Realistic Sheet of brick walling with the Black X Cross Marks on them. The Black X Cross Marks are cut guide lines & can be seen in the image right.

Using a steel ruler as a cutting guide, cut along both the black X cross lines using a sharp craft knife. Don’t use a blunt blade as this will drag & rip the paper. You should now have what looks like four small triangled shaped flaps.

Next, again using the steel ruler & sharp craft knife, cut out the brick textures from the sheet.

After cutting out the wall strips you should now have a number of brick wall strips as shown in the photo right.
Pre-printed Version
On the pre-laser cut base layer with parts marked B, cut & remove the small rectangle sections marked with a orange star. These pieces can be discarded. Next cut & remove the B sections from the parts sheet.
Download Version
Cut & remove the small rectangles from the parts marked B on the baselayer sheet. Use a steel ruler & sharp craft knife to cut & remove the small rectangles, like the Pre-Laser Cut version, discard the small rectangles as these aren’t needed.

Cut & remove the B wall base layer scetions from the base layer sheet, again using a sharp craft knife & steel ruler as the cutting guide edge.

You should now have the B wall section baselayer strips with the rectangle holes in them. We’ll now move on to applying the photo realistic wrap layer to base layer B.

On the non printed side of the brick wrap, apply glue (here we’re using a glue stick similar to Pritt Stick). Be careful around the cut flaps whilst gluing so as not to rip the flaps.

Now carefully placed the glued brick wrap layer on to the base layer B. Make sure that the edges line up on both the wrap & baselayer. The cut flaps must line up with each of the rectangle holes on the baselayer.

It should now look something like in the photo right. Make sure that brick texture has been smoothed flat & that there are no lumps or bumps which will spoil the look of the wall. We’ll now move on to fixing down the four flaps on each hole.

Push the flaps down into the hole so that they can then pushed through & bent/folded down on to the non printed side of the wall. Take you time whilst doing this. You may find it worth applying a drop of Roket Card Glue to fix the flaps down into place if they start to lift.

Repeat the process on the remaining holes on the wall strip. You should now have a wall strip that looks like in the photo right.

Now repeat the process on the other wall strips so that all the outer wall sections are wrapped, as shown in the photo right.

Next on the Pre-Laser version, cut & remove base layer rear wall sections part A’s from the parts sheet. Marked with orange X’s.
Download Version
On the download version, cut & remove the base layer parts A from the parts sheet. (This was the sheet that we glued the base template sheet onto the grey board card at the start of this kit build). Again use the craft knife with a sharp blade & use a steel ruler as a cutting guide.

On the Pre-Laser Cut version, cut out the sheet with the small rectangle brick sections & glue on to Part A base layer. You show now have the rear wall section looking something like in the photo right.

We’re now ready to bring the two parts of the wall together. For the next stage you’ll need Roket Card Glue.

On the rear wall part A, apply a bead of Roket Card Glue around the white non printed areas. Avoid getting glue any where near the printed brick section.

Next place the front wall section part B on to the glued rear wall section part A. Make sure that all the edges are sqaure true & flush with each other. The front holes on part B are the recessed sections & these must line up with the printed brick sections on part A. Once happy every thing is sqaure true & flush, place some weights on top to make sure both sections firmly stick to each other. Allow time for the glue to set.
Repeat the process with the remaining other wall sections.
Build Option
You can now either build the wall so it’s either single sided (so it goes up against a backscene) or as a double-sided wall. If building the double sided wall move on to the next stage. If building a single sided wall omit the next stage.

Apply Roket Card glue on to the rear of the wall section as shown in the photo right.

Now place the glued wall section on to the rear of another wall section, this then gives you the doublesided wall. Make sure that all edges are sqaure true & flush with each other.
Download Version
For the Download version, glue & place the base layer sheet with the pillars & coping stones (white sheet with black printed outlines) on to greyboard card. Allow time for the glue to set before cutting the parts free from the sheet.

Cut out the coping stone strips & pillar base layer sections from the parts sheet.

Cut out the following photo realistic textures from the wrap layer sheet: The coping stone strips & pillar wall sections.

Now apply glue using a glue stick to the rear non printed side of the brick pillar wrap. Place the pillar baselayer centrally on to the glued side of the wrap & proceed to wrap the pillar baselayer with the brick wrap. As shown in the photo right.

Now apply a bead of Roket card glue along one end of the wall as shown in the photo right.

Carefully place one of the wall pillars onto the glue bead on the wall end, so that it half over hangs the end of the wall. Now turn the wall over & repeat the process so it forms a slot (as shown on the right). This will allow another wall section to slot into the gap created by the two pillars which hides the joint between two wall sections.

As above with the double side wall but only one pillar is used on the front of the wall only.

Apply Roket Card Glue on to the end of the wall as shown on the right.

Now insert/butt up the two wall sections into the slot & use firm pressure for a minute to hold the walls whilst the glue sets. You can see in the photo right, that the joint is hidden behind the pillar.

To finish off the wall ends, take one pillar base section & cut it in half. Then glue the two pillar base pieces on to the rear of a brick pillar wrap as shown in the photo right.

Next glue & wrap the pillar around the end of the wall as shown in the photo right.

Now apply glue using the glue stick to the non-printed side of the stone coping sheet. Then wrap the glued stone coping wrap around the stone coping base layer, as shown in the photo right.

Apply a bead of Roket Card Glue along the top of the wall & then place the coping stone wall strip on to the glued wall top section.
This now completes the build of the wall.

All that is left is to glue the wall on to your layout. Add bushes etc to blend the wall into the scene, the wall can be further enhanced with weathering powders & pastels. The photos below show a single section installed on the layout.
