Building The KX044-OO Ultra-Low Relief Terraced House End Wall Kit

Tools required

What tools do I need? 

• Cutting mat
• Roket Card Glue, Glue stick (such as Pritt Stick) 
• Steel ruler or steel straight edge for cutting against 
• Craft knife with a fresh sharp blade
• Pen or Pencil for marking out
• Sanding stick (a cosmetic nail file will do)
• Tweezers 

Lets get started…

Start off by cutting the pips that hold the base layer on the main end terrace wall on to the parts sheet to release the walls.

The first of the options now. If you are omitting the end wall window skip this section, otherwise cut out the small rectangle as shown right.

Next job is to lighty sand flush any pips on the parts side as shown on the right. Use a sanding stick or as we’re using here a cosmetic nail file emery board. 

Now repeat & release the second end wall baselayer from the sheet. We are are going to assemble one left hand & one right hand end terrace wall. 

On the texture wrap sheets, select texture part A.

The fold lines need to be scribed on the rear (non printed side of the texture sheet). Here we’ve highlighted where the scored fold lines need to be. 

Tip: Hold the texture sheet up to the light & viewed from the non printed side mark the ends of the score fold lines in pen or pencil.

On the non printed side of the texture sheet using a steel ruler or straight edge placed on the marks made using a pen or pencil, score the fold line using the rear blunt edge of a craft knife. Don’t cut through the texture sheet!

Next carefully cut out texture part A from the sheet. You’ll also need to make some cuts as shown with the dotted orange lines in the image on the right. This will allow for the parts to be folded.

Apply glue to the non printed side of the texture sheet. Here we’re using a glue stick (Pritt Stick) to apply a thin even coat of glue.

Place the greyboard base layer on to the glued texture sheet. Make sure that the edges line up along the bottom & along the roof sections as shown on the right.

Fold the end flaps around the walls & chimney as shown on the right. 

If you are fitting the window follow this stage otherwise skip this stage & the following two stages. Make four cuts as arrowed on the right to form four triangles in the window opening. 

Flip the part over & push the triangle parts down on to the opening sides.

Turn the part over again, fold & glue the triangles down as shown on the right.

Next take parts sheet number three which is the windows. Spray paint using grey aerosol can primer paint. Once Dry, spray paint with white paint ( Plasticote aerosol can spray paint from the Range). 

A tip here for painting the front of the window sills is to cut & remove part of the parts sheet as shown on the right. This gives better access to painting the front edge of the winndow sill.

Leave the window sheet to one side for the paint to fully dry. Now cut out part B the wall brick top from the parts sheet. Use a dark coloured felt tip pen to colour in the white edges. Then glue into place along the top of the wall as shown in the third photo below on the right. 

Next cut out parts C (Chimneys) from the texture wrap sheet. Turn them over so that the non printed side faces upwards & then mark & score the two fold lines on each chimney texture sheet. 

Using the glue stick, apply a thin even coat of glue on the chimney & place centrally on the front side of the wall, as shown on the right. Fold the chimney wraps around the base layer making sure the wrap is level & flush with the top edge.

Repeat with the fitting of the other chimney wrap as shown on the right.

On parts sheet two, cut & release base layers part D & also on the texture wrap sheet, cut out wraps part D. as shown on the right. These are the chimeny embellishment parts. 

Using the glue stick, apply a thin even layer of glue to the non printed side of the wraps. Then place the base layer centrally on to the glued wrap. Proceed to then fold the wrap around the base layer as shown on the right. Now repeat with the second one so that you have a pair.

Next apply a small bead of glue (here we’re using Deluxe Materials Roket Card Glue) to the rear side of part D. Then carefully place on to one of the chimneys as shown on the right. Make sure part D sits level on the chimney.

Now we move on to the roof sections. Cut & remove the base layers E & F & also E & F from the texture wrap sheet. You’ll notice that Parts E are shorter than Parts F. One pair (one part E & one part F) are for one side of the roof section.

Apply glue to the non printed side of the texture wrap & then place the card base layer on the glued wrap as shown on the right with the card base layer sitting on one half of the wrap. ( So Part E base layer goes with Part E wrap layer & Part F base layer goes with Part F wrap layer ) Now fold the rest of the wrap around the base layer as shown on the right. Any exposed card base layer trim away using a craft knife. 

Take one of the longer roof sections Part F, apply a bead of glue along the lower part of the wall as shown on the right. Then place roof section Part F on to the glued section. The roof section should have an overhanging section as shown on the right. Make sure the roof section sits flush up to the chimney & is also flush with the rear wall edge.

Take one of the shorter roof sections Part E, test fit on to one of the upper roof sections. Mark off the slight overhang & trim flush with the apex of the roof. Then glue Part E into Place. Take the other shorter Part E & test fit it. If any overhang is found trim back so it sits flush at the roof apex as shown on the right. Now glue & fit into place.

Now cut & remove Part H from the texture wraps sheet. Touch up the white edges with a grey or black felt tip pen. Apply glue to the non printed side & place onto the roof apex/ridge as shown on the right.

Going back to parts sheet two cut & remove Parts J & K from the sheet. Sand flush any pips off the parts sides. These are for the chimney pillar tops.

Apply glue on to flat section either side of the chimney pot as shown on the right. Then take the larger Part K & place onto the chimney top so that it sits flush all around the chimney pot. Next apply a small amount of glue onto both top sides of part K & place the smaller part J onto Part K. As before make sure it sits flush allaround the chimney pot. Repeat with the other chimney.

Using a black felt tip pen, colour in the chimney pot top & also the white edges of the chimney pot wrap as shown right.

Now cut & remove Parts G from the parts sheet two. You’ll need four Parts G for each of terrace house.

Apply a bead of glue along one side of one Part G. The carefully place Part G on one of the roof undersides as shown right. Repeat with same with next Part G & so on as shown on the right

Next we cut & remove Part I from the textrure wrap sheet. Part I is the lead flashing. Use a black or grey felt tip pen to colour in the white edges of Part I. Apply glue to the non printed side of Part I then gently crease along the centre & place them onto the roof/chimney joints as shown on the right. Each chimney has lead flashing either side where it joins the roof.

Finally the window option. Cut & release window parts L & M plus window sill from the part sheet three. Cut two sqaure sections from the kit clear packaging to suit each window opening.

Apply a thin bead of glue around the rear of the top sqaure of Part M as shown on the right. Then carefully place one of the clear pieces you’ve cut out from the packaging onto the glued section.

Take the other window frame Part L & do the same with the glazing & glue the other piece of clear packaging into place over one of the window frames. Then apply another bead of glue to the rear of Part L window frame. Carefully place Part L on to Part M making sure that both frames are sqaure, flush & true. Make sure that Part M glazing is on the bottom of the the window & that Part L glazing is at the top of the window, as shown on the right.

Insert the window frame into the window opening so that it sits flush with the rear of the wall base layer. Apply a bead of gluy around the rear of the window frame. Option here is to get a printed image of a room interior or some curtains say out of a catalouge etc & glue them in place on across the rear of the window.

Turn the low relief building over so the front faces upwards & glue the window sill into place. As shown on the right.

This concludes the build of the KX044-OO Low Relief Terraced Houses Kit. All that is left now is for them to be glued to the backscene on your layout.
