Building The AX014-OO Next Train Indicator Boards – Part Four NTI Portrait Displays (OO 1:76 Scale)
A Look At Building The LX014-OO Next Train Indicator Boards – Part Four Individual Portrait NTI Displays
For this article, we continue our take a look at the LX014-OO Next Train Indicator Info Boards. To recap: This kit has been in the range for a few years now & we worked closely with manufacturers of the real next train indicator info boards to get this kit as realistic as possible. The kit is one that can be split over a few evenings with four different types of info boards included in the kit. As per all SMS kits, comes in clear package complete with instruction sheet & a sheet of laser cut parts.
The photo below shows the kit contents.
We’ll be looking at building the Individual Portrait NTI Display version board in this part four.
Let us get started…
Tools required
What tools do I need?
- A cutting mat
- Tweezers
- Roket Card Glue or Super Phatic Glue
- Sanding stick (Cosmetic nail sanding board is ideal)
- Glue stick (like Pritt Stick)
- Craft knife with a fresh sharp blade.
The build
Having completed the three other items of this kit, we now look at the last item which is the NTI Indvidual Portrait Display panels. On the texture wrap sheet, you’ll need to cut out Wrap Sheet parts B1 & B2. These are the front & back texture wraps for the NTI Indvidual Portrait Display panels. These are for use on individual platforms, as well as scafold brackets etc.
The image on the right shows the two textures B1 & B2 highlighted in the orange boxes. B1 is the texture wrap that goes on the rear around the sides. B2 is the display panel texture which goes on the front sides.
To Cut these out use a craft knife with a fresh sharp new cutting blade & a steel ruler/straight edge as a cutting guide.
Starting with the B1 wraps, carefully cut them out from the parts sheet using a craft knife with a fresh sharp blade. Use a steel ruler as a straight edge cutting guide.
Turn the texture part over & using the blunt edge of the knife, lightly score the fold lines as marked out by the arrows on the right.
Next cut out the front display parts B2 as shown on the right.
Now cut out the core base layers part B. You’ll need three per sign. Lightly sand flush any pips on the parts sides.
Next glue each of the three parts & place together in a stack of three as shown right. Make sure all sides & edges are true sqaure & flush.
Next glue each of the three parts & place together in a stack of three as shown right. Make sure all sides & edges are true sqaure & flush.
Apply glue to the back of texture wrap B1, use the likes of a glue stick such as Pritt Stick etc. Carefully place the three layer card stack centrally as shown right, on to the glued texture wrap.
Now fold up the sides as shown on the image right.
Next take one of the B2 front display wraps & apply glue to the back of it.
Carfully place the glued front display wrap on to the front of the NTI body. Make sure that the X on the rear is at the top as shown on the right.
All that is left to do now is to glue & mount the NTI display in your choosen location, such as on a wall, off a bracket etc.
This now concludes the assembly of all parts of the AX014-OO kit. In the next article we’ll look at another kit build.
Happy modelling
