Building The LX021-OO Workbenches Kit

Let’s Get Started…

You’ll need the following tools…

• Cutting mat
• Sharp craft knife
• A sanding stick (a nail emery board will do)
• Roket Card Glue
• Optional: Woodland Scenics Steel Rail Paint Pen or paint of your choice

In the image on the right marked within the orange box is the components to make up one workbench, with optional workbench top finishes & two different vices to choose from.

Start by cutting & remove part A from the parts sheet as shown on the right.

Lightly sand the pips on the part side flush.

Next cut & remove the table leg side frames from the parts sheet. The table side frames are shown right on the parts sheet with the orange arrows.

Sand flush any pips on the table side frame legs. The first three parts are ready to assemble.

Now run a bead of Roket Card glue (or similar) along the top edge of the table side frame.

Carefully insert the table leg side frame into the table top. The two small lugs on the side frame locate into two of the holes on the table top. Make sure the side frame is square & at 90 degrees to the table top. Hold the side frame whilst the glue sets.

Repeat the process with the second table frame, glue it & insert into the remaining two holes. Again make sure it sits at 90 degress to the table top.

Cut & remove part C the lower shelf from the parts sheet, again sand flush any pips on the sides that aren’t flush. Part C is shown on the parts sheet right.

Run a bead of Roket Card glue (or similar) along the top of the lower bars as shown on the right.

Carefully feed part C the lower shelf between the bench legs & then place on top of the glued lower bars. Make sure that part C sits level & that each of the four corner cutouts sits around the upright legs, as shown right.

Workbench Options

Woodwork workbench option.

The kit has two options these being a woodworking bench & engineers metalworking bench. We’ll now look at the woodwork bench option.

First cut & remove the two parts label D as shown in the image on the right. These are on the right of the kit map, please ignore the other two small parts labeled D on the left of the kit map.

Once the two pieces labeled D have been removed from the parts sheet, lightly sand flush any pips on the side flush.

Apply a thin bead of Roket Card Glue or similar along one face as shown on the right.

Carefully place the glued part D on to the workbench top as shown on the right. Make sure it sits flush with the long side edge & ends.

Now repeat the process with the other part D on to the workbench top as shown on the right. Again make sure it sits flush with the long side edge & ends.

Cut & remove the items highlighted in the orange boxes in the image right. These are parts F, G & the two small parts labeled D.

Glue the two small parts labeled D together to form a stack of two. Then glue the stacked parts D onto the back of part F (the non laser engraved side). You can at this stage paint part F into the colour of your choice. Part F is what would be the metal front piece to the workbench vice. The two small parts D are what would be the side jaws of the workbench vice.

Glue the rear of the assembled stack onto the workbench side in your chosen location.

Next glue & fit part G the vice handle onto the front of part F. Make sure the circle part of part G sits in the center of part F. Again paint part G in the colour of your choice.

Tip: Paint parts G & F whilst still on the kit parts sheet before removing.

That now concludes the woodwork bench option.

Metalwork bench option

Cut & remove part E from the parts sheet. Sand flush any pips on the edges of part E.

Apply a thin layer of Roket Card Glue or similar to the top of the workbench as shown on the right.

Carefully place the part E onto the glued top. Make sure all edges are square, true & flush.

To give the workbench a steel/metal looking top, a tip here is to use a Woodland Scenics Tidy Track Rail Painting Pen. The one we’re using here is the Steel Rail colour part number TT4580. This allows quick & easy painting of the workbench top with just a few strokes of the paint pen. It dries within a couple of minutes which is great for when pushed for time.

In the image on the right is the workbench after painting with the steel rail colour paint pen.

For the second type vice included within the kit, you’ll need the following parts: Parts H, J, G & I.

• Parts H are the vice sides
• Part J is the vice base
• Part G is the vice handle
• Part I is the vice jaw pad(s)

Before removing the parts from the parts sheet, using the Paint pen, paint the following parts:

• Parts H the vice sides
• Part J is the vice base
• Part G is the vice handle

Time to break out the tweezers & magnifying glass! Time for the tiny parts!! Glue parts H together, making sure the laser engraved side faces outwards. Make sure all edges are true, square & flush to each other. Once the glue has set, glue the flat section between the laser engraved bits on part J & place parts H onto J. The flat part that looks like an L on part H sits on part J, as shown on the right.

Now for the tricky bit. Apply a tiny amount of Roket Card Glue or similar into the recess shown on the right in the vice. Then insert part I into the recess. It’s a tight friction fit. Part I is the vice jaw grip pads.

Now apply some Roket Card Glue on to the underside of part J the vice base, & place vice on to the workbench as shown on the right. Choice of position of the vice upon the workbench is entirely yours.

Now take part G the vice handle & apply a tiny amount of Roket Card Glue or similar on the back of the circle part (the non laser engraved side), & place on to the front of the vice. You may need to hold the handle a for a minute whilst the glue sets.
