Building the LX109-OO Step Ladder Kit

A recent addition to our growing range of kits is the LX109-OO Step Ladder Kit. This OO Scale kit comes with eight tall step ladders & four small step ladders. Ideal for your loco depots, factory & industrial scenes & various other scenes around your layout & diorama. The ladders make for a great evening’s modelling session. Combine this kit with the LX098-OO Laser Cut 13ft Scaffolding Planks which can be found here:

Let’s Get Started…

You’ll need the following tools…

  • Cutting mat
  • Sharp craft knife
  • Roket Card Glue
  • Tweezers

In the pack there is one sheet containing the laser cut parts & an instruction sheet.

In the pack, there is one sheet containing the laser cut parts & an instruction sheet. The parts marked in the orange boxes on the right show which components make up a tall ladder & also a small ladder.

We’ll start with the big ladder. Cut & remove the parts shown on the right from the parts sheet. Any pips that hold the parts to the sheet need to sand/filed flush.

Lay the side A frame face down, one side has laser engraved markings on it. The laser engraved side needs to face outwards. Apply a small amount of Roket Card glue into each hole for the steps & carefully insert the tab on the end of the steps into the hole. Make sure the step is at 90 degrees to the A frame. Once all the steps have been glued into place, set the piece to one side to give the glue time to set.

Having given sufficient time for the glue to set, it’s time to move on to the other side of the ladder. You can either apply a small amount of Roket Card glue onto the tab ends of the steps as shown on the right, or fit the second A frame onto the steps & apply a small amount of glue into the side slot holes.

Take your time when inserting the step tabs into the slot holes to prevent damaging the tabs on the steps. Again put the piece to one side for the glue to have time set.

Having completed the tall ladders, it’s time to move on to the smaller ladders. The smaller ladders are located on the bottom section of the parts sheet.

Cut & remove the two side frames & three steps to make one small step. As before, the laser engraved detail on the A frame must face outwards. Apply a small amount of glue to each step & insert in the slot holes. Allow time for the glue to set.

Once the glue has set, as before carefully place the other A frame on to the steps & glue into place. The laser engraved detail on the A frame must face outwards. Place to one side for the glue to set.

Once the glue has set they can then be placed on to your layout/diorama. Alternatively, you can paint them in suitable colours  of your choice.

Happy modelling
