Building The New Containers Kits – CT001-OO-A onwards

Let’s Get Started…

You’ll need the following tools…

• Cutting mat
• Sharp craft knife
• Sissors
• A steel ruler or straight edge for cutting against
• Roket Card Glue
• Optional: Glue Stick like Pritt Stick
• A pin

First carefully cut & remove the laser cut core parts from the parts sheet. Lightly sand flush any pips off the part sides using a sanding stick.

Now take either part C or B (these are the two internal spacers). Glue along one of the shorter sides as shown on the right using Roket card glue.

Next, insert the tab on the side you’ve just glued into one of the two middle slots as shown on the right on part A. Now repeat with the other internal spacer part (Parts C & B). Make sure that both the internal spacers are sitting at 90 to the side piece.

Now take part D and glue along one of the shorter sides & insert the tab into the end slot on part A as shown on the right.

Use the SX002 corner jig tool to help set the end parts D & F square as shown on the right. The jig tool can be found here:

Run an extra bead of glue along the inside of the corner joint to add extra strength as shown on the right.

Now take end Part D & same as part F, glue & insert into the other end of part A. Make sure it sits square & true.  Glue an extra bead of glue along the inside of the corner joint to add extra strength. Allow the glue to set.

Now take the part labeled H. Apply a bead of glue along the top edges of the four upright pieces C, B, F & D. Carefully fit the part H on to the glued sections as shown on the right to form a rectangle box. Make sure all the tabs are located into the slots on part H & that it’s all square & true.

Now take end Part D & same as part F, glue & insert into the other end of part A. Make sure it sits square & true.  Glue an extra bead of glue along the inside of the corner joint to add extra strength. Allow the glue to set.

Now take the part labeled H. Apply a bead of glue along the top edges of the four upright pieces C, B, F & D. Carefully fit the part H on to the glued sections as shown on the right to form a rectangle box. Make sure all the tabs are located into the slots on part H & that it’s all square & true.

Next, run a bead of glue along all the top edges, & carefully place the final side part onto the glued areas. Make sure that all the tabs are sitting square & flush in the slot holes.

Apply an extra bead of glue around the edges of Part E that has just been fitted. This will help give extra strength to the core box base. Now repeat the process by assembling the other base core sections that come in the kit.

As this is a twin pack kit, we have two core base layer/Boxes as shown on the right. Now it’s time to add the texture wrap layers.

The texture sheet

Using a pin, punch a small hole on all the marked circle area’s on the texture sheet, as shown on the right. These holes are markers for scribing fold lines.

Turn the texture sheet over, & place a steel ruler on two of the pin holes. Using the back blunt edge of a craft knife, carefully & lightly score a line between each of the pin holes. Repeat the procedure so that you have a score line for each of the folded joints.

Using a sharp craft knife & a steel ruler as a straight edge to cut against, carefully cut out the texture wrap.

You should now have a cut-out texture wrap as shown on the right.

Using a glue stick or similar (we’re using Pritt stick here), apply glue along one of the narrow long sides as shown on the right.

Now place the glued side face down on to the section of the texture sheet shown on the right. Use the scored fold lines as positioning guides to line up the core box too. Make sure there is no bumps or lumps on the texture sheet that the core box has just been placed onto.

Apply glue to one of the ends, & fold the end up & also wrap the tabs around the sides as shown on the right. Make sure all parts are true & flush as well as no lumps appear under the texture sheet.

Now repeat with the other end of the container.

Next glue & fold the long sides down onto the box. Start with the bigger side with the tab. The long side with the tab must be glued down before the final long side is glued into place.

 TIP

If you are going to be using the containers on your model railway wagons & model container trailers, make a small hole or indent in each of the four corners on the underside of the container. Make the small hole or indent where printed holes are on the four corners on the bottom of the container.

These holes will act as locating holes for the lugs on the container wagons & trailers to fit into. This will prevent the containers from falling off when travelling on your wagons.

That’s it, one completed container. Now repeat gluing the texture wraps on to the other containers in the kit. Once the glue has dried, apply a coat of matt spray varnish to the container to seal & protect the texture layer form UV light. The likes of Testors Matt Spray Varnish Aerosol Can form a=most good model & art/craft shops are ideal.

With the long tab now glued in place, all that’s left is to glue the final side into place.
