Dapol GWR/BR 8t Cattle Van

This model dates back to around 1958 with Hornby Dublo, the tooling later sold to Wren around the late 1960’s. In 1993 Dapol bought the tooling from Wren & then in 2007 upgraded the model with an all-new retooled chassis. This model has a basic level of detail which due to the age of the tooling is understandable. The chassis upgrade now includes NEM coupling pockets, with removable small tension lock couplings. The model also has fine-scale profile wheelsets, reasonable detailed chassis. Liveries are BR brown, BR brown with weathering, BR brown early livery, GWR dark grey, GWR dark grey with weathering, TVR black, grey, red/brown. The wagon is cheaper than the more recent super detailed release by Bachmann, which is great for modellers on a budget which makes it cheaper to build up a consist of cattle vans. 

These vans primarily built for transporting cattle, found some being rebuilt into fruit vans & also vans for Ale traffic as well. BR inherited over 11,000 cattle vans, though traffic for the cattle vans was declining, BR continued to build them up to around 1954. As the traffic for cattle declined, the vans were put to other uses such as vegetable traffic amongst other duties. The vans had a wide time period in traffic from the 1930’s up to the early 70’s.
