FLEETWELL – PART 9
I’ve finally installed and tested all twenty-five of my Cobalt IP Digital and SS surface mounted point motors so my track work is almost completed. I recently purchased the DCC Concepts Alpha Power and Alpha Box to upgrade my layout to 5 amp power so next is to install these items and attach my track-bus and accessory bus (to power the point motors). I also purchased the Alpha Central for operating the points rather than using the PowerCab handheld.
The Alpha units connected for testing, the Alpha Central displaying green LEDs that shows the points set to straight through and red LEDs for the points set to diverge:
Set up was simple, just follow the diagrams in the manual.
These items are not suitable for vertical fixing and I don’t want them visible on the layout, so I’ve built a shelf attached to drawer runners fixed to the underside of the baseboards that I can pull out when I’m at the layout and push back under afterwards – out of the way.
I then placed the Alpha units on the shelf to make sure the shelf could be pushed back under the layout without any obstruction.
I’ll fit a small timber batten to the rear of the shelf to stop the Alpha units sliding/falling off when pulling/pushing the drawer.
More to follow..
Hi Malcolm, Great to meet you at Keighley the other week. Following with interest this DCC Concepts Alpha System. Looking forward to the next update. All the best Iain
Hi Iain, Yes it was good to meet you too – and put a face to the voice.
