Hornby’s ultimate version of Gresley’s classic the A4. The one featured in this article is part of the 2015 Silver Collection to mark the 80th anniversary of the A4. This collection features 2509 Silver Link, 2510 Quicksilver, 2511 Silver King, & 2512 Silver Fox.

The model features fine scale wheels. A flanged replacement wheel set for fitting under the rear pony truck for running round larger scale curves. The wheel set already fitted on the rear pony truck is flangless, this allows the loco to run though tighter radius curves.

The model has 5 pole skew wound motor driving the main driving wheels on the loco unlike earlier Hornby A4’s which are tender driven. Power pick ups are on 12 wheels make for smooth running. Other features include tender with corridor, sprung buffers, fine detailed parts, 8 pin DCC socket, NEM couplings. Hornby have done superb job on capturing the complex shape of the front end curves.

In tests done by the likes of Model Rail magazine they reported that it pulled a ten coach train with ease.
