Hornby ZGV Clam Box Wagon
Hornby ZGV Clam Box Wagon
Another of Hornby’s all-new super detailed tooling models. This model is one of the departmental wagons which are used for transportation of ballast & sleepers around the UK rail network. The Clam wagon (Tops Code ZGV) is built on 21-tonne coal hopper wagons. these date back to the late 1950s. 450 of them were rebuilt between 1989 & 1990 by RFS at Doncaster & also Powell Duffryn. The chassis underframe being retained & the hopper replaced with a heavy-duty ribbed body.
The wagon features Hornby’s high standard fine printed details & livery application, sprung buffers, NEM coupling sockets with removable small style tension lock couplings. The chassis is diecast & nicely weighted, along with fine-scale profile wheelsets, these are excellent running wagons. The model features separate details such as the brake gear & steps etc. The model press picked up that they thought the sides of the wagon were possibly a little too thick, but this is possibly down to the limitations of the tooling.
An essential wagon for your departmental rolling stock fleet.

Summary Excellent addition to anyone modelling BR departmental wagon fleets. Good runner though body sides a little on the thick side.
