Kit bashing
Our railway has been many years in the making and moved location 3 times, suffering a bit in each move. It finally has a permanent room of its own. The lockdown and the discovery of Scalemodelscenery kits have inspired some real progress. I have experimented with plastic and stone kits over the years but not being very good at the painting have found the texture sheets a real step forward and have even clad some of the old plastic kits to make them more realistic.
I was struggling to find a Goods yard building to fit a tight space so got a bit inventive with the single road engine shed kit to make it into a custom through yard. Still needs a few additions like gutters but so much better than my plastic effort.
The platforms were originally stone but quite knocked about in the moves so now totally rebuilt in card and finally got some posh railings. Had I waited Justin has now done all the hard work on platforms but it was a good lockdown project.
I am now using the last available space for a narrow-gauge track with interchangeable dioramas such as town or harbour. It allows more flexibility with the era, more of a heritage line. Had real fun with the garage, car showroom, and terraced houses with chip shop but really want a fire station to complete the town in a more steam-era style. Seen pictures of some mighty fine buildings.
My first foray into Scalemodelrailway kits was the Victoria Alehouse. I have even been to see it for real in Cornwall just 2 weeks before the first lockdown. It is still early days but I have some grand ideas for bashing this kit into an opulent Fire station. More when I get it off the drawing board.

Great looking builds Kes. I agree the range of kits is excellent and so easy to modify to what you want.
Can I suggest you look at the Auhagen Gutter kits that I’ve used on my retail units
Looking good Malc 🙂
Great work there Kes & nice to hear about your layout & modelling. Keep up the good work.
