Kit Bundles (Part Four) – SMS-BP6 Industrial Factory Pack (Building The KX002-OO 6′ Industrial Wall)

Tools required

What tools do I need? 

• Cutting mat
• Deluxe Materials Roket Card Glue. Other glues ideal for assembling this kit include: PVA, UHU, or Evo-Stick Wood Glue.
• Craft knife with a fresh sharp blade
• Glue stick such as the likes of Pritt Stick or similar
• Sanding stick (a cosmetic nail file will do)
• Tweezers 
• Scissors
• Steel ruler
• Coloured felt pens (assorted)
• SX002 Scale Model Scenery Jig Tool For Card Kits (Optional)

Lets get started…

Start off by carefully cutting out Base Layer Part A as shown in the highlighted orange box on the right.

Take one part A & apply  a few thin beads of Roket Card Glue or similar to one side as shown on the right.

Placed the glued Part A onto the SX002 Jig tool making sure it’s butted up against both sides as shown on the right. Now take another part A & place on to the first glued part A. Make sure the second part A is butted up against the the two sides of the jig tool, also make sure that all edges of both part A are true sqaure & flush.

Next repeat the process, so you end up with six pairs of part A’s in glued stacks of two. As shown on the right.

Now take two pairs of stacks of two & glue them together to create a stack of four. Again use the SX002 jig tool to assist you in lining up the edges to keep them all sqaure. You will now have three pairs of glued stacks of four, as shown on the right.

Moving on to the texture layers, cut the three brick wrap textures out from the sheet as shown on the right. You’ll notice that there is a black line either side of the first three wall sections. This is a cutting guide line (we’ve marked the cutting line with orange arrows & dotted black line. The three wall sections need to cut where the cutting guide line is.

One thing to note is which way round the wall wraps should go. The weathered black band sits at the the top of the wall, we’ve highlighted this for you in the photo right.

Turn the wrap layers over so the non printed side faces upwards. Then apply a thin even layer of glue to the non printed side. Here we are using a Pritt Stick glue stick.

Tip: To prevent getting glue over the cutting mat, place the wraps on to the clear plastic packing that the kit comes in, whilst applying glue.

Place one of the baselayer stacks of four centrally on to the glued texture wrap. As shown on the right. Make sure the top & bottom edges are flush with the wrap edges.

Using the blunt rear edge of a craft knife, gently score a fold line along the edge of the baselayer on the wrap layer as shown on the right.

Repeat with the other two walls. You should now have three wall sections as shown on the right.

Fold the glued wrap down & over the end of the baselayer as shown on the right. Now repeat the process at the other end.

Now cut out the remaining three wall wrap layers. This time ignore & Don’t cut them on the marked short cut line. Cut the full lenght of the wall wrap out.

As before, apply glue (using a glue stick or similar) to the rear non-printed side of the wall wrap layer. Then making sure the weathered black band goes the same way as the wrap already glued on the base layer, place the the glued wrap on to the remaining non printed side of the wall. Make sure that all edges of the wrap are flush with the ends & sides of the wall base layer.

If any white edges are showing, lighty touch up using a felt tip pen or similar.

End wall/Corner Pillars

We now move on to the corner pillars/end wall pillars. Carefull cut & release parts D from the base layer sheet. You’ll notice that each part has a laser engraved dotted fold line down the center of each part. Don’t cut the dotted fold line.

Using a steel ruler as a guide, turn the craft knife blade over on to it’s rear blunt edge & lightly score along the dotted laser engraved line a few times.

Using a steel ruler again, place the centre line of part D on along the edge of the ruler. Then proceed to fold the down one side to form a 90 degree angle as shown on the right. Now repeat the process so that you have a pair of right hand angle pieces.

Take the pair of righthand angle pieces, & glue together using Roket Card glue to form a box, as shown on the right. Use the SX002 jig tool to help line up both parts & keep them sqaure. Allow time for the glue to set.

This will form the base for the brick pilliars. Repeat the process for as many brick pilliars as needed.

Now cut out the gate/corner pillar wraps.

Apply a bead of Roket Card Glue to one side of the baselayer box. Carefully place the glued box on to the non-printed side of the pillar wrap, making sure that it sits flush with edge of the wrap along it’s length. 

Now lightly score a fold line along the wrap where it meets the baselayer box.

Apply a bead of Roket Card Glue to the side of the baselayer box next to the wrap & proceed the fold the box over on to the wrap. Make sure the wrap is smooth with no lumps or air bubbles showing.

Repeat the process until the box is fully wrapped in the brick paper.

Now glue the pillar to the end of the wall as shown on the right. Repeat as needed for other side of gateway or end of the wall etc.

Next cut & remove capping stone base layer part C from the sheet.

Next cut & remove capping stone wrap layers from the sheet as shown on the right. Also cut & remove the small sqaure base layer sections from the card base layer sheet as well.

Take one small sqaure base layers & one of the small X shape wrap. Apply glue to the rear of the X shaped wrap layer using a glue stick. Then place the small sqaure base layer centrally on to the center of the X shape wrap as shown right.

Then proceed to wrap the four sides over to completely cover the small sqaure. This now forms the pillar coping stone. Repeat as needed for the other pillars.

Now take the long part C baselayer & glue into a stack of two. Make sure all edges are true & sqaure.

Glue the stack of two base layer centrally on to the the non printed side of the long coping stone wrap. Then proceed to score using the blunt edge of the knife a fold line along both sides where the wrap meets the baselayer.

Now take the long part C baselayer & glue into a stack of two. Make sure all edges are true & sqaure.

Glue the stack of two base layer centrally on to the the non printed side of the long coping stone wrap. Then proceed to score using the blunt edge of the knife a fold line along both sides where the wrap meets the baselayer.

Now take cut & remove part E baselayers from the baselayer sheet. We’ll also need the smaller brick pillar wraps too but don’t cut the pillar wraps out just yet.

Turn the wrap layer over & hold up to the light so you can see the printed side from the reverse side. Mark the red arrows (these are either side of the brick wraps) with a pen on the non printed side.

Then lay the sheet back on the cutting mat. Line up the the pen marks with a steel ruler & then score a line between the the two marks. This now forms our fold lines for the next bit.

Cut the brick wrap pillars out. Apply glue to the rear non printed side of the brick wraps using a glue stick. Now place the base layer for the pillar onto the glued side of the wrap making sure it sits between the two scored fold lines. Then fold both sides of the wrap down to completely wrap the the base layer.

Repeat as needed, you’ll two of these pillars for every join section in the wall.

Glue one half of the pillar (on the side the two side flaps folded down on to – this is the rear side). Then carefully place on to the end of the wall leaving one half of the pillar sticking out.

Now apply glue to the other rear half of the pillar that is sticking out & place the other wall section on to it. Make sure all parts are sqaure & true.

Take another completed pillar & glue into place on the other side of the wall joint section as shown on the right. This now hides the wall joint section.

Glue & fix onto the top of the wall the long coping stone strips. Followed by gluing & fixing the small sqaure coping stones onto the end pillar/gate pillar coping stones.

Gates

Choose which gates you like out of the two versions that come with the kit. We’re going with the bigger rusty gates. Cut the gate wraps out & also the corresponding base layer as shown on the right. 

Score the two fold lines on the rear side of the gate wraps for the twoside flaps as shown on the right.

Starting with the bigger gate, glue & fix into the center of the side with the flaps as shown on the right. Then glue & fold down the side flaps. Glue & fold down the other side of the gate.

Repeat the process with the smaller gate.

The gates are now ready for fixing to the wall.

Glue the gates on to the wall gate pillars. It’s up to you if you have the gates open or closed.

Glue the walls into place on your layout.
