Model Railway in a Box – Part 2

Welcome to part two of our little micro Model Railway in a box. Part one covered the building of the baseboards and the concept.

Cork has now been paid and some different track plans have been considered. The plan for this little layout is to be a self-contained shunting puzzle layout that can be easily transported to exhibitions and club nights and be used at home for fun.

We wanted to be able to keep the layout protected in the box and also make it extremely easy to set up and pack away. With Justin’s help, the baseboard that he made fits perfectly in the box, so now we are working out the best track plan.

I had a three-way point from another project that I wanted to try and use, so set about trying to replicate the famous ‘inglenook’ shunting puzzle plan.

Once I was happy with the track plan I tested that all the buildings would fit where I wanted them to. So far so good.

I can’t put my finger on it, but something just did not look right with the three-way point. I was not happy! So it all had to be removed and this was the next attempt;

This I was much happier with! 2 points instead of a three-way point made a huge difference in the look of the track.
