Modelling Dry Stone Walls – Part 1

This video shows my method of constructing and painting the dry stone walls depicted on my Yorkshire Dales branch line. I used this method as it allows the walls to rise and fall with the contours of the scenery, and is extremely cheap, quick and easy. It can also be adapted for any scale.

The only materials required are: –

  • Fine Grade Cat Litter
  • Filler
  • PVA Glue
  • Water

The only paints required are:

  • Dark grey matt emulsion
  • Light grey matt emulsion
  • Black/dark grey wash

If you want a lot of stone wall and don’t wish to spend too much money or time this is a quick way of making walls. Helps to have a cat – makes it even cheaper.

What a fantastic and inexpensive way of making rough stone walls. Will be sure to have a go myself.
