Modelling Tip Of The Day – 60

This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:

Airbrush Compressors

Compressors for use with painting Airbrushes can be expensive. One way to save money on a compressor is to use an idea that was shown to me this past weekend. A lot if not most modern cars now come with a tyre inflation kit instead of a spare wheel. These can be acquired from car scrap yards, either for free or very low cost. Motorist shops such as Halfords, Motorsave as well as on the internet also sell car tyre 12v compressors from under £10 upwards.

Using one of these car tyre 12v compressor pumps instead of an expensive airbrush compressor will save you money. With them being 12 volts you can either connect up to a train controller or 12-volt transformer. For even more flexibility, remove the car 12-volt plug & fit two crocodile clips instead on to the wires. So for example when airbrush painting your trackwork, simply clip the crocodile clips on to your trackwork & turn up the power. This will allow you to paint anywhere around the layout without having to have electric cables running all over the layout.

I’d like to thank & Mr D Gilmour for today’s Tip.
