Scale Model Scenery Kit Build Guides – LX314-OO Small Industrial/Unit/Building OO Scale

Tools Needed

Tools needed are as follows:

• Cutting  Matt
• Craft knife with a new cutting blade
• Steel ruler for cutting against
• Roket card glue
• Tweezers 
• Sanding stick (Cosmetic nail sanding stick will do)
• SX002 Corner Jig Tool

The Kit Contents 

The kit comes supplied in a clear plastic wallet, complete with instructions, kit parts map & a number of laser cut parts sheets. The photos right & below show the kit contents.

Turn the parts sheet over so it’s facing face down as shown in the photo right. Cut & release the following parts free from the parts sheet highlighted by the orange ‘X’s in the second photo right. The parts highlighted are C, B, A & D2. 

We are building the recessed front wall version so we are omitting using the flush front wall, part D1 on the parts sheet.

With the parts removed, lightly sand flush any pips on the part edges flush as shown in the photo right.

Take wall parts, part ‘A’ & part ‘B’ & fit them together so they form a 90 degree ‘L’ shape. They’ve but cut in such a way that the walls will interlock with each other as shown in the photo right. 

Use the SX002 jig tool to help align both parts as shown in the photo right. The jig tool can be found here:

Apply a bead of Roket Card Glue along the inside of the corner joint as indicated by the orange arrows opposite right, allow time for the glue to set.

Now take side wall part ‘C’ & fit onto the other end of wall part ‘A’. Again, use the SX002 jig tool to align the two walls together to form an L shaped 90 degree angle, as shown in the photo right. Apply a bead of glue up the inside corner joint of parts ‘C’ & ‘A’, as indicated by the two orange arrows in the photo right. 

Flush Front Wall Option

If building the flush front wall option, cut & remove front wall part D1 from the parts sheet. Fit & glue part D1 on to the front of the building as shown in the second photo right. 

Recessed Front Wall Option

If building the recessed front wall option, cut & remove front wall parts D2 from the parts sheet. Fit & glue the two D2 parts on to the front of the building as shown in the third photo right. Again use the SX002 jig tool to assist in aligning the two D2 wall parts. Allow time for the Roket Card Glue to set.

Next cut & remove the recessed front wall section part E from the parts sheet. as shown in the photo right. 

Apply a thin bead of Roket Card Glue along the inside front two wall pieces as shown in the photo right.

Next place & stick part ‘E’ into place upon the two glued front wall sections, as shown in the photo right. Make sure Part E sits true & square to the side walls.

The front wall should now look the same as in the photo right.

Now cut & remove the two inner wall pieces parts ‘G’ & ‘H’ from the parts sheet.

Apply Roket Card Glue to one side of part ‘H’ & insert inside the building & stick it to sidewall part ‘B’ as shown in the photo right.  Make sure part E sits flush with the bottom edge of part ‘B’ as shown in the second photo right.

Apply Roket Card Glue to one side of part ‘G’ & insert inside the building & stick it to sidewall part ‘C’ as shown in the photo right.  Make sure part G sits flush with the bottom edge of part ‘C’. Please note, the wider thin slots of the window openings must be at the bottom of the window, this slot is for the window sills.

Now cut & remove part ‘I’ from the parts sheet, this is the roof panel section.

The inner wall pieces create a lip for the roof panel to sit upon, the photo right highlights this.

Insert the roof panel. Make sure it sits level on top of the inner wall liners.

The roof panel will be a snug fit & the walls should sit a couple of millimeters above the roof panel, as shown in the photo right.

Run a bead of Roket Card Glue around the inside of the roof/wall joint, as shown in the photo right. Allow time for the glue to set.

Cut & remove from the parts sheet, parts ‘F’ & ‘M’ as highlighted in the photo right. These are the front recessed wall parts.

Apply Roket Card Glue to the rear side of part ‘F’ & stick into place on the front wall of the building as shown in the two photos right. Make sure part ‘F’ sits flush with the bottom edge of the building.

The parts sheet that contains the doors, windows, window sills & capping stones (Parts L, J, N, P, O, K, Q & R), give a the sheet a coat of primer paint using grey or white aerosol can spray primer paint. The likes of Plastikote spray can Primer paint is ideal for this, available from the likes of The range, online etc.

Cut & remove the coping stone strips parts ‘Q’ & ‘R’ from the parts sheet & place to one side. Next paint the parts sheet with the doors & windows in the colour of your choice. Here we’ve used Humbrol Red acrylic spray can paint to paint the parts sheet. Once dry, apply a second coat of paint if needed otherwise cut & remove the door & window parts from the parts sheet.

Again like the doors & windows, give the rest of the building, including the yet to be fitted front wall part ‘M’ a coat of primer spray can paint. Allow to dry, then mask up the front of the building as shown in the photo right. Spray paint again in an aerosol can acrylic spray can paint. Here we’ve used a Humbrol Sand colour to paint the front wall render section & also yet to be fitted part ‘M’. As shown in the two photos right.  

For the painting of the rest of the walls, we’re using Noch Pantina Paint Pens. The colours we’re using is a warm grey & stone colour.

The warm grey colour was applied first followed by the stone colour.  

Next, the building was masked up again to cover & protect the brickwork. A couple of coats of matt white acrylic paint was spray-painted inside the building on to the interior walls & ceiling.

The process was repeated for the roof panel top using a greyish white colour, again using acrylic paint.

Next glue one of the doors into position on the front building wall as shown in the photo right.

Then glue & fix the door frame into position as shown in the photo right.

Now, repeat the process again, by gluing the door & door frame into place on the rear doorway of the building, as shown in the photo right.

Using the clear packaging that the kit comes in, cut out a piece of the clear packaging & glue into place on the rear of the long front window frame, as shown in the photo right. 

Apply a thin bead of Roket Card Glue to the rear of the window frame & stick into place as shown in the photo right.

Apply a thin bead of Roket Card Glue to the rear of part ‘M’ & stick into place above the window as shown in the photo right.

Next, we move on to the two side windows. Cut out from the clear packaging that the kit comes in, two pieces to fit the rear of the window frames.

Then glue the smaller top opening window frame into place. If fixing the window in an open position, then glue a piece of clear packaging onto the rear side of the small window frames. If doing the windows, glue the small window frame into place & then glue the clear glazing from the kit packaging into place. 

Glue & fit into place the window sills. Make sure the wider front edge (highlighted by the orange circles) sits flush against the building wall.

Test fit the window to make sure it fits correctly.

Remove the window & apply a thin bead of glue around the inside lip edge as shown in the photo right.

Then refit the windows making sure that they are fully pushed into the window recesses.

Taking parts Q & R, paint in your chosen colour. Here we’ve painted them in stone colour, again using the Noch Pantina Paint Pens. Once painted, cut & remove from the parts sheet & touch up any bits missed on the part edges with the paint pen.

Apply a bead of Roket Card Glue along the top of the wall edges & stick into place the coping stone top strips.

Next cut & remove the two drain pipe/gutter top collect parts from the parts sheet (Parts S & R). Paint these two parts in your desired colours.

Glue both into position on the rear wall as shown in the photo right. Look for the hole in the top left-hand corner on the wall, this is the location for the drainpipe & top gutter collector box.  

That concludes the build & paint of this kit. The building can further be enhanced by painting the mortar lines on the walls & also some weathering. Here we’ve added some weathering to the building using Tamiya Weathering Master weathering pastels.
