Modelling Tip Of The Day – 62

This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:

Test Test Test…

Having completed your layout baseboards & laid the track, don’t move on to adding the scenery straight away. Test run trains on your layout for over a couple month period. This will give time for the trackwork to settle etc, & show up any issues should they arise. On my own layout, I test ran it for just over a six month period during a hot & cold weather.

Any adjustments can be easily made to the trackwork without damaging any scenery & scenic work. This will pay off in the long run. It’ll also allow for any changes to be easily made to the trackwork if you change your mind.

Great advice, something that on many occasions and many layouts including my own wouldn’t be given a second thought until problems reared their heads.
