Modelling Tip Of The Day – 66
This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:
Cross Bracing
A well-built baseboard will give trouble free running of your trains. When building the baseboard it’s essential that you fit cross bracing on the baseboard frame. This prevents the top surface board from sagging in the middle, which in turn can lead to poor running & issues with your track work. Over the years I’ve seen some modellers make the mistake of not fitting cross bracing, which lead to them having to make alterations to strengthen up the baseboard frame or worse in having to scrap the layout & rebuild!!
Before fitting the baseboard top on to the baseboard frame, drill holes for your layout wiring in all the cross braces. This is easy to do before fitting the layout top surface baseboard, rather than trying to drill the wire holes afterward. Fancy building your own layout baseboard?
