Modelling Tip Of The Day – 72

This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:

Service Sheets

Servicing your own locomotive models is essential to keep your locomotives running smoothly. Learning to service & repair your own locomotives can save you time & money, rather than paying & waiting for someone to do it for you. One handy reference material for servicing your own locomotives is service sheets.

The likes of Bachman provide an exploded diagram sheet we each of their locomotive models. Showing how to gain access to the inside of the loco. This is ideal for seeing how the model is assembled & for tracking down part & part number for a faulty part.

Hornby also has very handy downloadable service sheets for most of their locomotives. If you’ve not booked marked the link, here’s the link to Hornby’s download service sheets:

Also included within the link is service sheets for Electrotren, Arnold, Rivarossi locomotive models.

Ghost Trains. How about fitting drivers into the cab of your locomotives. What do you want your crew to be doing? Prieser (Noch also (Admin)) do a driver figure leaning against the open window of his cab & also the cab door. They also do the fireman as well. Hornby just sticks with the same old crew figures. They use to provide in some locos but have stopped providing them a long time ago. Dapol figures can also be used in many other ways as well. For instance, many years ago I made my own football supporters using Airfix figures, I made men, women & children football supporters. This was done by cutting the figures in half & I joined a mans upper body to a woman’s lower body, then painted them into a fictional football team colours. Debbie.

Depends on the modellers preference. The figure on a steam loco could be held temporarily in place using Taxy Wax. So when the loco is not in use say on a TMD, will look like the loco is awaiting its next crew etc. Good use of figures adapting into other poses etc.
