Modelling Tip Of The Day – 77
This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:
Everyday household items
Everyday household items make for a great source of modelling materials, once they’ve been used for their primary purpose. Cereal boxes make for a great source of card for using as the base layers on download card kits, such as the kits seen in the club shop. Toilet cardboard rolls, pringles tubes can be turned into storage tanks & silos. Plastic wall screw plugs can be turned into bollards, biro pen refills could be used to make chimney pots. Use your imagination & be creative.
The late Alan Downes who was one of Britain’s master modellers was a master at reusing household objects, one example was his model of Scunthorpe steelworks. Made from everyday household objects. As Alan you to say the item is just a shape, it’s how you use & adapt that shape into your modelling to trick the viewer into seeing it in a different way. See the image below & see how many household Items Alan used in the steelworks.
