This Modelling Tip Of The Day is an ongoing series, in which we’ll be posting a modelling tip that may be of use to the newbie right up to the seasoned modeller. Today’s tip is:

Texture & Colour

When you are out & about in the countryside you’ll notice that nature is rarely uniform. Look wild meadows & road sides & you’ll see flowers, weeds growing wherever amongst the grass. Even well kept meadows will have weeds & flowers growing, so replicate this on your layout. It’ll add more scenic interest for the viewer & help create a more realistic scene.

The likes of Gaugemaster, Noch, Woodland Scenics, Silfor amongst others produce a fantastic range of scenic products for creating wild meadows & roadsides. Be sure to mix up the colours, plant heights to bring more texture & variation as well as adding more realism to your scenics.
